The Subtle Art of Becoming a Bum

While being a bum is about being unemployed and doing nothing, it isn’t as bad as it actually is. That is, if you know the right things to do. Being a bum means having a lot of time in your hands, this is actually cool if used wisely. I have been a full time bum for 1 month and half now and although it’s a bit boring it can be really productive. Here’s how I’m filling my time.

  • Well, because I’m spending time at home I get to spend a lot of time with my family. I get to help my siblings with their home works, do some major cleaning ventures, or do any stuff that needs help. It’s a big relief to everyone who’s busy dealing with daily grind.
  • I travel a lot more than usual. Whether it’s just a trip down in the city or a trip somewhere little further, I always travel as much as I can. If someone says “I’ll be going to…..” it’s almost a reflex to answer with “Can I come?”
  • I’m trying a lot of new things. I do everything that catch my attention; pinterest is a good start if you’re looking for projects that you might want to try. I’m slowly learning how to calligraphy, watercolor, bullet journal, and my new obsession graphic design.
  • In line with exploring, I’ve also been learning a lot, whether it’s physically reading a book, watching documentaries/tutorials or just learning about life in general. I’ve read the most books during this phase of my life and I’m so loving it!
  • I finally buckled down and crossed out one of my major goals. I finally made this blog, one that’s in life. It has been a long goal to make a personal and updated blog but with the absence of internet at home it was challenging back then.
  • I eat a lot. Whether it’s cooking a full meal for everyone or making simple sweets or pancakes. In one way or another I’d always find a way to fill my cravings. Also, I always make sure to visit the new cafés to try out new food.
  • Ironically, I also got a lot of exercise this time. It’s because eating and sleeping is a sure formula to become obese in no time, I try to exercise more. My motivation is: I DON’T WANT TO LIMIT HOW MUCH I EAT SO I GET BACK IN SWEATING.
  • I’m also learning to technically take care of myself by being mindful, meditating, and assessing how I feel and doing the things that’s good for me. It also helps in teaching one’s self to be better in control.
  • I also tried volunteering. I taught elementary children from our local school and it’s totally a refreshing change for me. At the same time you are able to help others!
  • Collect ID’s. That sounds a little funny but it’s true. Growing older means going out behind your student ID and getting more involved, with commitment and responsibilities to the community.
  • I learned how to drive and got my license.
  • Of course, I cannot forget about the adulting responsibilities; making resumes and applying for a job or any opportunities that may come my way. Going to job interviews helped me calm down my fear of interviews.
  • Meeting a lot of people. Because I have been literally been going here and there, I have been meeting a lot of new people. It can be new friends or just strangers; it can be really amusing to meet different people of different ideas and in different walks of life.
  • I did a lot of first’s. Going on a trip alone, getting a license, going to meetings, going to the bank. All of it I had to do alone. As someone who gets scared of even ordering alone, doing stuff alone is a huge achievement and even helps me overcome my fear.

Life after school is generally about growing and dragging yourself outside the comfort zone. It is pretty tough and hella awkward but that’s the only way. What I do is, to collect every courage that I have in my bones, fake a confidence and just do it.

Basically, I am just indulging myself to everything that I love or would love doing. Back when I was in school, I didn’t have enough time to chill and now is the time to spoil myself and do the heck that I want to do. To be honest, I’m actually learning a lot more than when I was in school like how to go to market, how to deal with different situations, basically everything that is necessary in real world.

CEBUGEN

This trip had been a rollercoaster of a ride; I had my highest highs and my lowest lows. Setting aside fieldtrips, this is the very first trip I had with my friends. We have to plan out everything –food, where to stay, what to do, money –all that necessary jazz. So, it was likely to have my expectation up. But just like life, unexpected things are bound to happen. To start off, our ship got postponed due to a typhoon. Then more unexpected things keep happening –our expenditure went over the budget, most of the establishments were closed. It was a series of unfortunate events.

But taking everything into account, I still couldn’t be more grateful that the journey happened. Because along the way even greater things came about –we were able to meet new people, explore and learn more about ourselves, experience more of life and most importantly we appreciated the vastness of nature and realized just how small we are in front of God’s creation.

P.S. It was a pain having to choose only few of the photos bc we had a lot. LOT. (Tip: Be sure to not over use burst shots it’ll take forever to choose photos that are identically similar). Also, I am yet to scan thru our photos from Bantayan Island. Hihihi. I am thinking I should save it for another post maybe? The place is so stunning it deserves to be in another post.

January Faves

janfave header

Wow, we are on the second month of the year already! How have you been keeping up with your 365 journal? I never had one, so I’m good haha. Anyway, I’m so glad February is finally here bc I have always been awkward with January, being a new beginning and all that. But nonetheless, January had been cool and I have some stuff that I have been loving during the month of January.

fave1

  • Aloe Gel from The Face Shop. I know. I know. I am very late at trying this stuff but at least now I have them. Hahaha. I mostly use it for my hair and scalp bc my face is still on medication for my pimps.

fave2

  • Notebooks from Miniso. Uhmm. I don’t have anything to say about this. Explanation is here. But ugghh that pretty pink color and the details. It’s almost a sin not to buy this one.

fave5

Nescafe Gold’s Latte Macchiato. I don’t know how but some time ago I have get over my obsession from Great Taste Choco (and mind you I have been having it for more than 3 yrs every day) and since then I have been trying out other coffee. I am now more into Nescafe’s line of coffee and this on particularly is my new fave.

fave6

  • Baby Lips (Orange flavor) from Maybelline. This product has been a great game changer bc ever since I got this I have almost stopped wearing lipstick. I mean lip balm with very vivid color is my kind of jam. I love that it’s so natural looking and doesn’t dry the lips.

fave4

  •  Aquarelle Brush from Miniso. I have been meaning to buy Tombow brush pens for the longest time except I’m so broke for that. So you can just imagine how freaking happy I was when I saw these dupes. Hello 100php for 3pens!! What a freaking deal.

fave3

  • Spoon straw.  This one is a super random find but super cool. It’s a spoon in a straw or a straw in a spoon, whatever. Plus, it is detachable! One thing tho is that I hope they can have it pink color too.

  • Little Girl Designs. Super love her retreat series! If you love art and a journalista at heart you should definitely visit her blog.
  • Thought Catalog. It’s an online magazine mostly about young adulthood (20’s) life. I’ve been loving them since I came across their life after college articles. I’m inserting this one just now in case you guys need it. They make really good articles.

Coffee Reads iii

Hello folks! It’s only Thursday but I am already in Uggh Monday mood bc regular classes starts  next week. It’s only start of a new sem but I can already feel the massive school work coming my way. Huhuhu. Anyway, I’m trying to be as productive as I can before I get caught up with all the school stuff. And so I have a new set of reads to start it off. Some of these tho are not as current bc I read them months ago. Regardless, I hope u still enjoy reading my thoughts on these books. Hihihi.

  • Before I Fall by Oliver Lauren

2 stars / 5 stars

The book has an interesting plot of a girl stuck on the last day of her life. Samantha Kingston a high school it girl, relives 12th of February every day and no matter how much she tries to break free, she seems to be stuck forever.

To be completely honest, I actually didn’t like it as much bc I knew what was gonna happen all along. I’ve watched bits and parts of the movie but my sister broke the whole story on me. Which is a bummer. It was a torture having to go through the entire book just because “I’ve started it already“. I do like the part where she discovers more of what really happens outside her inner circle –of how she realize other people’s presence and feelings, of how her friends are truly are and/or aren’t.

  • Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon

3.5 stars / 5 stars

This is the first novel of Nicola Yoon but the second book that I’ve read from her. Tbh, I liked this more than the first read The Sun is also a Star. I enjoyed the writing style, IM chats, the illustrations by her husband and the way she illustrates the phrase “life is a gift”.

I really liked the character of Madeline Whittier, the why her thoughts flow is so genuine and so spot-on. Even with all her sickness, she’s friendly, cheerful and a huge dreamer. I think she and the guy are icons to positivity, despite their situations.

There has been a movie adaptation to this book and I think the boy is pretty cute. hihihi. Although I wish in the movie, they had given a little story to Rosa (her nurse’s daughter) and Kara (the guy’s sister). I feel like at some point they have a story of their own. But overall, I like how it was.

  • Falling Into Place by Amy Zhang

4 stars / 5 stars

This is a story of Liz Emerson –a popular it girl and a huge bully. She, basically just like any bully, rules out everyone. Everyone around her has every reason to hate her, and that’s including herself. She hated how she had become, she hated herself so much that she has started convincing herself to give up. The story shows her presence in other people’s lives, of how she came to be their nightmares or of how she used to be not that way.

I like the writing style; it’s soulful and pretty. But what’s crazy about it is that all of these deep feelings are coming from the debut author Amy Zhang, a high school student with a crazy talent. She was able to portray how powerful depression is and I think it also brings a lesson on how we can help people get over from it.

  • Every You, Every Me by David Levithan

4.5 stars / 5 stars

I’m starting to be in love with Levithan, no wait scratch that, I think I’m already in love. He writes stories that is so different but is not weird enough. Different in a good way. He’s not redundant; he always comes up with new brilliant ideas, things only he can think of. And his writing style is never the same.

So far, this book is my favorite of his. It’s so addicting and disturbing at the same time. Disturbing, in a way that it messes up with your mental state. I was reading the book in one sitting but halfway thru I forced myself to have a short minute break bc my mind and my whole body is getting so worked up. That was how much I’m into it. I must say I love all of it. I was so happy with how it all went from start to finish. One of my faves!

My Creative Process

creative process

I have always been a slowpoke –somebody who moves, acts, responds, or works very slowly. “why do you speak so slow? Why do you eat so slow? Is there any way for you to move faster?” Not a big news. I always have been this way since I was little. While that’s not saying I hate it, but I’m not exactly loving it as well. I’m somewhere between I admit and accept it truly but I have to be productive/efficient while being so. This explains why the most I can update this blog is weekly, sometimes even more and I’m very sorry for that. Hihihi. I’m tryin to work on it. :))

This  goes hand in hand with my creative process. While being creative and creating stuff is my second nature, it has always been in a very slow pace.  I’d like to think my creative process has three stages; inspiration, motivation, and acceptance.

  • Inspiration – Ideas come to very randomly and expire almost as fast. That is why I always have with me a small notebook and a pen to write things down immediately so that ideas won’t float away. Sometimes however, nothing ever pops in my head no matter how hard I try. I had to dig thru everything (tumblr, pinterest, blogs, youtube) to keep the creative juice flowing but still no ideas are coming. But when inspiration does hit, it hits real hard. It comes flowing like forever, different ideas rushing all at once. It becomes overwhelming then turns stressful. The thoughts are racing in my head, I don’t know which goes first, and it’s a chaos. What I learned to do is I put everything down on paper (my journal), I write everything –every little thing so that I can visualize the ideas properly, without getting them mixed-up and blurred out. I write them down unfiltered and raw. I write keywords, usually in bullet form with no order. From there, I start managing and organizing them into which goes first and which doesn’t go anywhere.

process

  • Motivation is the hardest part. The motivation to start working on the ideas hits me not so oftenly (it’s a struggle). Planning and actually doing it has a very wide gap. Even when I have all the time in the world but when the motivation doesn’t come it just won’t happen. On the contrary, there are times when I’m crazy busy and that’s when adrenaline comes pumping. In other words, I’m a procrastinator. There are times when it works, there are times it doesn’t. The hidden key is to just do it no matter what mood you’re in, just start working on it and see how it goes. Having a cup of coffee and pastries helps me get into work mode easily.

Processed with VSCOcam

  • Say for instance, in journaling, one thing that scares me most is to making mistake or to not like the output that I made. I hesitate a lot before starting and bc of that I visualize and plan every move very carefully but that doesn’t ensure perfection it even raises frustration. But over time, I learned that letting my hands do the work and surprising myself at the end is the joy of creating. And it’s that joy that feeds my hunger to create more no matter how slow I get there.

So, how bout you guys? I would love to hear the process behind every great content that you have.

Weekend Notes ii

Trust me when I say, when you and your friends are done with school, meeting up with them becomes a tough task. My friendly advice is, if youre still in school and you have your bffs make to most out of it, it may feel like school takes on forever but it actually doesn’t. When mah girls finally got our schedules matched, we knew we had to go out together. Not to mention, this was the day Typhoon Urduja decided to come to town and rain-visit us. But that did not stop us from push through-ing this long-long overdue meet-up. We still went down to Iligan despite the heavy rain. #strongindependentwoman

Bc I quote “pag di tau matuloy bka next year na ulit tayo magkita

1

So, our first stop was in Tavolo. Weird thing was we were literally the only people in the place. It was so deserted that our chika was just all over the place. I ordered korean beef with rice and a detox shake.

igt

After then, we went to Plaza Alemania’s IGT  Music lounge. And again it was deserted. I mean it is pretty normal to go sing your heart out at 1pm right? Hihi. We ended up not singing too much tho as we were too caught up with our chika. Hahahha.

3

Then, we went to Naicha to get some drinks. I ordered Japanese Matcha Milktea. We have here the girls getting their December-babies-celebration. We don’t see each other often so gotta take the opportunity and throw that candle in for some catch-up celebration mode.

5.JPG

Also, shoutout to this girl who pretty much boosts my self-value every time. She’s like a pill of confidence and wisdom.

6

So that’s, pretty much it. Food, chika, food, chika.

They say it’s not about how long you’ve known a person but how you feel when youre with  them. It’s totally true bc I’ve only known these girls for a year and it feels like we’ve known each other far more than that. Actually, the first day we’ve met doesn’t feel like that at all. We were so comfortable with one another on our first day. Funny thing is, people even thought we were bffs! As cliché as this sounds, maybe we were really meant to be friends. We barely meet each other now but yknow they’re always for keeps.

How bout you guys, how was your weekend.
